Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description

A silver metal and epoxied irregular shaped device 1 1/4 inch (3.18cm) in height, a representative of a sea turtle as seen from above, with a green skin pattern on its head and flippers and white patterned shell, displaying a Red Cross bearing a silver Rod of Asclepius, the space between the sea turtle and scrollis light blue. Attached between the sea turtles flippers, a silver scroll inscribed in Hawaiian NAHU to the left, MAI O in the center and KE KOA to the right which translates to BITE OF A WARRIOR, in Maroon.



Symbolism

Maroon and white(silver) are the traditional colors of the Army Medical Department. The Hawaiian green sea turtle known as Honu symbolizes good luck, endurance and long life. When lost, turtles are excellent navigators and often find their way home. The white pattern on the turtles shell suggests human teeth, further highlighting the units dental health mission. The Red Cross with the Rod of Asclepius symbolizes the units duties in medical care, aid and health.



Background
The DUI for DENTAC Hawaii was canceled per U S Army Medical Command Order 236-018 and established the new Dental Health Activity in its place  The insignia was approved 29 Aug 2017
